If someone is set on digging themselves into a hole, you really do not need to help them. You can encourage them to NOT dig that hole, but if they are set on it – let it go. Sometimes you win by not fighting.
First – the science. Bullies are humans. Did you know that? Yeah. they are. And we humans behave badly towards one another for a wide variety of reasons. Most of these reasons have nothing to do with the victim and everything to do with the kid behaving badly.
I decided to write my musing on love being a 4 letter word in my bullying blog because bull – the root word of bullying is also a 4 letter word and it strikes me as a useful way to understand bullying behavior. Bullies are like bulls.
A bully needs someone who will respond to them either in fear or in submission. They don’t really care which. Heck, getting made at them means they got to you and THEY controlled YOUR behavior.
Don’t allow them to control your behavior.
