I give really good advice. Seriously I do. It isn't so much that I help people solve their immediate problems, it is that I help them think more clearly about their problems so that they can solve them in a way they are going to feel REALLY good about. The people I help tell me I have transformed their lives. The approach I teach is called Humanism and it has been around since, well, forever. The three main aspects of the philosophy I teach is how to make better decisions thru critical thinking. How to improve your relationships thru compassion and how to infuse your life with meaning and purpose by applying your ethics actively to all your decisions, not just the big ones.
I am the host of this website and the author of The Bully Vaccine which teaches an operant conditioning approach to the problem of bullying.
When people behave badly – it’s rarely about you and almost always – all about them. The best thing you can do is be compassionate. If you make it all about you – you are not helping yourself or them and you will end up hurting more than you need to and probably make the stressed out poorly behaving person – behave even worse.
We all have moments where we get upset. That’s ok. That’s normal. What is not ok is taking out your anxiety and fears on other people. So, the challenge is – how to make space for those emotions, while teaching kids how to not “lash out” as a result of those emotions.
A person who has taken one of the free online courses I offer – emailed me the other day to tell me about the impact my course had on their child. They gave me permission to share the story here (details about who and where and what are omitted to protect the identity of the children involved.
