I give really good advice. Seriously I do. It isn't so much that I help people solve their immediate problems, it is that I help them think more clearly about their problems so that they can solve them in a way they are going to feel REALLY good about. The people I help tell me I have transformed their lives. The approach I teach is called Humanism and it has been around since, well, forever. The three main aspects of the philosophy I teach is how to make better decisions thru critical thinking. How to improve your relationships thru compassion and how to infuse your life with meaning and purpose by applying your ethics actively to all your decisions, not just the big ones.
I am the host of this website and the author of The Bully Vaccine which teaches an operant conditioning approach to the problem of bullying.
The question is – what are you going to do about it. First – understand – this is mentally draining and traumatic. Your response to this – isn’t blown out of proportion. It’s ok to respond the way you are.
Often what happens is that we allow the bully to get away with it and the bully is being rewarded by other people – who think his abuse is funny. The victim – by “playing along” is making that seem socially ok. After all – if the victim isn’t really being hurt – what is the harm.
This may seem strange to people who have not been victimized, but it’s hard not to feel responsible for what happens to yourself. And when someone violates you – it’s hard – not to take it personally. And people do.
hate isn’t rational. It’s a realistic response, but it doesn’t always help us come up with a strategy that will actually work to solve our problem. Most of the time when we are in the throws of hate – we just lash out – randomly and ineffectively.
