Bullies bully, primarily because they like the response they get out of you. To get them to stop, you need to stop responding the way they like.
The good news is – this is actually fairly easy to do. It turns out bullies are easy to manipulate. I’m not saying you should turn into a bully yourself. I am saying that you should learn how to control your emotional responses so that you can respond in a way that will make you less fun to bully and in a way you can be proud of.
I have taught these skills to numerous people and their children. It works. I have helped kids who have difficulty with spoken language, learn how to speak up without fear and without anger to get bullies to stop and leave them alone.
The best part is, when you do this, people rally to you. You aren’t alone. Bullies have other victims besides you. When you learn how to stand up for yourself in a way that is calm and without anger, but still, not tolerant of bad behavior, you will have learned a powerful skill that will serve you well throughout your life.
